Community Services: Training Guam Early Hearing Detection & Intervention
On October 3, Joseph Mendiola (right), Guam EHDI Interoperability Data Manager, conducted training on Guam ChildLink – EHDI with Sheryll Lewis (left), RN, the designated Hearing Screening Coordinator of the Guam Regional Medical City Mother & Baby Unit. Guam ChildLink, the online data base system facilitated by the Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (Guam EHDI), administered by Guam CEDDERS, is part of the system used to ensure that all babies born on Guam undergo hearing screening before leaving the facility of their birth and receive follow up services if needed.

The Guam Early Hearing Detection & Intervention Evaluation Workgroup consisting of parent representatives, GEIS personnel, and Guam CEDDERS staff met on Tuesday, May 10 to develop an evaluation plan for the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Informational System (EHDI-IS). Also attending the Pacific Rim Meeting were representatives from the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Project Advisory Committee held its quarterly meeting on December 14, 2015.  Topics covered included updates from birth sites and Guam Early Intervention System (GEIS) on the status of new born hearing screenings and intervention services for newborns that require hearing services. Committee Members also provided feedback and input about the various Guam EHDI activities and goals to ensure that all babies receive a hearing screening before discharge, diagnostic audiological evaluation before 3 months of age, and early intervention services by 6 months of age.
