June 19, 2019: As part of the Guam Department of Education Vision Program – Extended School Year, Vision Instructor, Darlene Taimanglo and 8 students who are blind participated in a guided tour the Guam System for Assistive Technology Demonstration Center and Model Home to learn about AT for vision that provides support to daily living. The students range from 8 and 18 years.

June 18, 2019: GSAT’s Center Coordinator Leah Abelon was appointed and sworn in as Community Rehabilitation Program Service Provider of the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) at the Governor’s Office in Adelup, for a term of three years. The SRC’s purpose, in partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), is to review, analyze, and advise regarding the DVR Program.

June 10, 2019: GSAT Center Coordinator Leah Abelon conducted training on the usage of a TDD/TTY, a telecommunication device for the Deaf, and creating accessible documents. Training participants included staff from the Guam Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities (DISID) Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Division of Social Services.

May 13, 2019. The Guam System for Assistive Technology (GSAT), Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (Guam EHDI) Project, and Guam Positive Parents Together, Inc. (GPPT) partnered to disseminate information on their respective programs during the 2019 Head Start Transition Conference at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort. The conference provided opportunities for sharing ideas and strategies with Head Start families as they prepare their children for transition into kindergarten. March 12, 2019: Leah Neumann, a deaf-blind specialist from the Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) provided information to Guam CEDDERS during her visit in Guam. She also participated as a resource vendor during the 25th Annual GSAT Fair on March 9, 2019. The iCanConnect program provides individuals with significant vision and hearing loss with free equipment and training. 25th Annual Guam System for Assistive Technology Conference Held on March 1st

March 1, 2019: The 25th Annual GSAT Conference, was held on March 1, 2019 held at Westin Resort Guam, welcomed 168 participants which included individuals with disabilities, service providers, family members, educators and the general public. This year’s theme: “Empowering Diverse Communities Through Innovative Technology,” recognized how innovative assistive technology paves the way to possibilities and creates a positive impact on people with disabilities.
